What Is EcoArmour®?

There are few synthetic erosion control products available on the market today that can fully compare to EcoArmour®. A ground-breaking product, EcoArmour® is an Australian designed and manufactured solution that allows for safe and effective installation on all surfaces. EcoArmour® is a synthetic erosion control blanket that has been designed to be sprayed through a hydroseeder, a true alternative to the likes of GeoFabric and Jute Mesh. Once sprayed, it dries and sets in a matter of hours, providing extended high- shear resistant erosion control that is able to withstand moderate rain events just 4 hours after application

So Exactly What Is It?

A blend of minerals, interlocking fibres and specialty binders form EcoArmour’s® durable, non-flammable crust. The specialty binders adhere to and incorporate themselves into the substrate below, forming a tough, resilient cover that is also flexible enough to bend and move with the ground below it, eliminating cracking of the coating. EcoArmour® features a flexible membrane, meaning that it can support the growth of vegetation without removing the crust or can be made water repellent to prevent vegetation through the addition of a hydrophobic polymer to the blend. When sprayed as a porous material, water can drain through to the top soil below, reducing overland flow as well as allowing vegetation growth to work its way through if needed. This enables more permanent erosion control through revegetation while providing intermediate control in a wide range of conditions.

EcoArmour® can be used for temporary drains, permanent clean water vegetated drains, steep slope stabilisation and erosion control. You can use EcoArmour™ to stabilise road side batters and swale drains, control sedimentation and can also be used as a ditch lining, cover for contaminated fill or for land fill erosion. It even has applications for water run off on mine sites. It also helps to control erosion on all substrates including compacted clay, rock, sand, sandy loam, dispersive soils, and any soils that are extremely difficult to manage and access. EcoArmour® is easier, quicker and safer to apply than geofabric, particularly for inaccessible areas or steep slopes.

Our Success

Spray Grass Australia recently undertook work for a defence contract in which EcoArmour® was specifically mentioned as the product of choice. The Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO) were facing difficulties stabilising areas around explosives and ordnances. There were limited options due to rigorous safety requirements around product choice. EcoArmour® allowed us to offer DSTO with a solution that came with a warranty and abided by the Australian Standard for Explosives – Storage, transport and use. For this particular project, a hydrophobic additive was included in the blend to create a water-resistant membrane, supressing vegetation and creating a strong, long lasting erosion control barrier on mounds with steep batters.

Existing products such as GeoFabrics need to be carefully laid out and pinned down to ensure effectiveness. Other solutions such as Concrete Canvas and Geoweb are a costly exercise. The biggest advantage to EcoArmour® is that it can be applied through hydroseeding equipment, saving a great deal of time and money on labour costs and ensuring a safe and effective coverage.
